To fulfill their ultimate success, performance of vapor growth carbon fiber (VGCF)/epoxy nanocomposite strain sensors subjected to static cyclic loads was evaluated in this work. A strain-equivalent quantity (resistance change ratio) in cantilever beams with intentionally induced notches in bending was evaluated using the conventional metal-foil strain gauges and the VGCF/epoxy nanocomposite sensors. Compared to the metal-foil strain gauges, the nanocomposite sensors are much more sensitive to even tiny structural damage. Therefore, it was confirmed that the signal stability, reproducibility, and durability of these nanocomposite sensors are very promising, leading to present endeavor to apply them for static structural health monitoring.

Load Test and Model Calibration of a Horizontally Curved Steel Box-Girder Bridge
In this paper, full scale load test of a horizontally curved steel box-girder bridge is carried out in order to detect structural defects, which reportedly result in unwanted vibrations in nearby buildings. The bridge is tested under the passage of six heavy vehicles at different speeds, so as to determine its static and dynamic responses. A total number of one hundred and two (102) sensors are...
متن کاملMonitoring Damage Propagation in Glass Fiber Composites Using Carbon Nanofibers
In this work, we report the potential use of novel carbon nanofibers (CNFs), dispersed during fabrication of glass fiber composites to monitor damage propagation under static loading. The use of CNFs enables a transformation of the typically non-conductive glass fiber composites into new fiber composites with appreciable electrical conductivity. The percolation limit of CNFs/epoxy nanocomposite...

The study of mechanical behavior of the structural steel S400 under quasi- static and dynamic loading has been the subject of this investigation. In oder to obtain different stress - triaxiality conditions the specimens were notched with 1, 1.5, 2 and 3.5 mm notch radius. The results of fractography show as the velocity of tension increases, ductility reduces and a ductile-brittle transition oc...
